Job Description:

 

Under the direction of a more senior designer or project engineer, the Draftsperson will be responsible for ensuring the proper application of engineering design and drawing practices in support of our business. He/she will be working in a collaborative team environment, using 2D and 3D CADD tools for development of material handling and process equipment for both new product designs and improvements to existing equipment. Work may also include updating facility drawings and creating reference links for new and existing drawings

 

Key Responsibilities

Apply proper application of engineering design and drawing practices under the direction of engineers and designers.

Prepare final design layouts and manufacturing documentation.

Ensure technical quality and accuracy of project work and obtaining the required approvals.

Monitor adherence to approved standards, policies, and procedures.

Prepare work estimates and participate in planning activities and progress meetings as required.

Monitor design/drafting project hours with respect to overall objectives.

Maintain liaison with engineering, purchasing, production, and other teams to ensure design work meets requirements.

Evaluate and suggest improvements to product designs and design/drafting processes.

Assist with prototyping and assembly activities and advise on corrective action to resolve design problems.

 

Job Requirements:

 

Qualifications

Education:   Normally a Technologist Diploma (3 years) in mechanical or other appropriate technology

Experience: 3-5 years directly related experience is required. Proficiency in use of Windows operating system and Microsoft Office applications. Three (3) or more years of experience using AutoCAD 2D.

Experience with ISO 9001 quality management systems

Knowledge:   Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing, CSA & ANSI drawing standards

 

Skills and Competencies

Understanding of PDM and configuration management concepts

Strong oral and written communication skills.

Experience in use of SolidWorks or other 3D computer aided design tool

Experience with AutoCAD Architectural computer aided design tool

Knowledge of Facilities Engineering including ventilation, plumbing, electrical single line diagrams, and security drawings

Product Data Management (PDM) systems expertise
