The Regional Controller is accountable for the finance and accounting operations of the corporation’s subsidiary companies and include overseeing the day-to-day financial operations including forecasting, budgeting, analysis, production of consolidated financial statements and reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of control and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the Company’s reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles.

  • Oversee operations of finance departments, including the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the department’s goals and objectives
  • Establish and monitor internal controls to ensure that accounting and finance activities are in accordance with established legal regulatory and company policies and procedures
  • Partner with Operations to define, measure, analyze, improve and control processes which impact customer quality and influence internal operating efficiency
  • Assist with acquisitions and integration of operating companies
  • Provide strategic analysis as required to drive improved decision making
  • Work with sales team on product pricing, costing and margins
  • Preserve updated knowledge of CRA and accounting requirements
  • Support staff at subsidiary companies
  • Prepare, analyze and present monthly, quarterly and annual consolidated operating results
  • Prepare the quarterly and annual reporting package for public company reporting and consolidation
  • Recommend benchmarks against which to measure the performance of company operations
  • Manage the production of annual budgets and forecasts
  • Calculate variances from budgets and report significant issues to management
  • Provide for a system of management reports
  • Ensure statutory reporting requirements are completed in a timely and accurate manner
  • Coordinate all government or other assurance engagements and year-end audit and preparation of audited financial statements
  • Comply with local, provincial, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings


  • Experience producing consolidated financial statements and reports (using International Financial Reporting Standards)
  • Post-secondary degree/diploma in business, accounting or finance
  • 5+ years of progressive related work experience
  • Successfully completed accounting designation (CA, CPA, CMA, CGA)
  • Experience managing a team of internal and external staff
  • Ability to travel occasionally within Canada
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Demonstrated technical strength with QuickBooks
  • Previous experience working for a public company is a strong asset
  • Previous experience working in the cemetery and/or funeral industry is a strong asset
  • Strong organizational skills and keen attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills and a competent phone manner
  • The successful candidate may be required to undergo a background check
