Job Description

Employment Type: Full Time 


  • Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual individual financial statements and operating results
  • Assist in the preparation of the quarterly and annual reporting package for public company reporting
  • Participate in the production of annual budgets and forecasts
  • Calculate variances from budgets and report significant issues to management
  • Provide for a system of management reports
  • Ensure statutory reporting requirements are completed in a timely and accurate manner


  • Oversee and support operations of accounting departments for achieving the department's goals and objectives
  • Assisting in the formulation and monitoring of internal controls and policies to ensure that accounting activities are in accordance with established legal, regulatory requirements
  • Manage journal entries, invoices, etc. and reconcile accounts for the monthly or annual closing
  • Partner with Operations to define, measure, analyze, improve and control processes which impact customer quality and influence internal operating efficiency
  • Provide strategic analysis as required to drive improved decision making
  • Preserve updated knowledge of CRA and accounting requirements
  • Support accounting staff at subsidiary companies


  • Coordinate all government audits and year-end audit and preparation of audited financial statements
  • Review the Company’s accounting information to identify and resolve inaccuracies or imbalances
  • Comply with local, provincial, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings
  • Responsible for managing operational data and ensuring data integrity and accuracy

Required Skills

  • Experience producing financial statements and reports
  • Post-secondary degree/diploma in accounting or finance
  • 3+ years of experience as an Assistant Controller, or similar progressive related work experience
  • Successfully completed or in process of obtaining CPA accounting designation
  • Ability to travel occasionally within Canada
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Experience using QuickBooks considered an asset
  • Previous experience working for a public company is a strong asset
  • Previous experience working in the cemetery and/or funeral industry is a strong asset
  • Strong organizational skills and keen attention to detail
  • The successful candidate will be required to undergo a background check
