Job Description

  • Lead/assist the preparation of the test facilities for experimental test programs within the laboratory. 
  • Planning of test programs, identification of test needs and coordination of a team of wind tunnel support staff will be required to meet the needs of either fee-for-service, collaborative or internal research based clients.
  • Conducting of general engineering services in conjunction with the other functional groups within the Aerodynamics Laboratory this includes individuals with non-engineering degrees, such as Technical Officers (TO).
  • Design, conceive, install and commission upgrades of mechanical systems, including but not limited to gas turbine engine installation, lifting devices, cooling systems, and compressors. 
  • Performs feasibility studies on new systems and technologies. 
  • Responsible for the complete project management of capital projects including budgets, specifications. 
  • Manage consultants and contractors work, installation, etc.
  • Prepares designs/drawings and specifications, coordinate procurement, installations, commissioning for wind tunnel test facilities including mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems. Adapt existing test facilities to special test requirements and maintain/upgrade installations.
  • Chair design reviews of facility modifications required to support testing.
  • Coordinate and prioritise tasks carried out by the three disciplines (Mech/Ops, Instrumentation, Data reduction) in preparation of a test.
  • Follow up on assigned Facility tasks after Post Mortem/Close out meetings.
  • Manage assigned Facility improvement/upgrade projects.

COMPENSATION: To Be Negotiated


EMPLOYMENT TYPE: One Year Contract 

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering
  • Membership with a Professional Engineers association or equivalent would be an asset.
  • Extensive experience in a large experimental test facility environment.
  • Experience managing multi disciplinary teams involved in the upgrading of test facilities or preparation of test programs.
  • Experience working with the processes and practices of an ISO or similar quality system.
  • Experience using 3D design software (such as ProE, Autocad, etc…)
  • Extensive knowledge of process control. Interest in analytical tasks and problem resolution. 
  • Knowledge of design standards and ability to perform basic stress analysis.
  • Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards.
  • Knowledge of mechanical vibration mitigation technologies.
